Day 5

Although it is only day five, it seems like I have been here a lot longer. During class today we had a lecture on safety and public etiquette, we worked on more "working" commands with the dogs including retrieving items off of an counter, turning on and off light switches, and tugging open or pushing doors, cabinets, and drawers open and shut. The dogs seem to get really worn out by the afternoon because their schedules are changing so much and they are getting used to be parting of a team. We took pictures during our lunch of our entire class and also individual pictures. Half of our class will be graduating this Saturday - these are the individuals who work in facilities such as rehab centers and nursing homes.

The best part of today was getting to actually play with our dogs. My new service dog was very energetic and excited to play. However, like a true service dog, my new companion is currently napping under the desk as I type this. Today is our first day bringing our new companions home and I have big plans. I am going to groom my dog, go for a walk, and do lots of cuddling and petting. Even though it is Saturday, we still have class tomorrow and will be going on our first official public outting. We are going out for lunch as a class! I am looking forward to getting my new dog used to new rountines. Things are going really well.

I am looking forward to Jeremy's visit to Ohio and have enjoyed the encouraging emails from everyone. Missy - I will be thinking of you tomorrow and hope you have a great birthday!!
